Highfield Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to become a paediatric first aider in the workplace with a responsibility for the welfare of infants and children. This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in the industry and it meets the requirements for paediatric first aid outlined in the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Course Details

Entry requirements:


In order to register onto this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements:


• Learners are required to be 16 years of age prior to certification.

• It is also advised that learners have a minimum of level 1 in literacy to enable them to complete the assessment.


Upon completion of this First Aid course, you will have passed the following units:


Unit 1 - Emergency Paediatric First Aid

Unit 2 - Managing paediatric illness, injuries, and emergencies



Qualification Outcomes

You will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid Response (RQF) certificate that will remain valid for 3 years.


In addition to this it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.


Training also includes how to:

Unit 1


• Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider

• Be able to assess an emergency situation safely

• Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are unresponsive

• Be able to provide first aid for an infant and a child who are choking

• Be able to provide first aid to an infant and a child with external bleeding

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is suffering from shock

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with bites, stings and minor injuries


Unit 2


• Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected injuries to bones, muscles

• , and joints

• Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected head and spinal injuries

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with conditions affecting the eyes, ears, and nose

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with an acute medical condition or sudden illness

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who is experiencing extremes of body temperature

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child who has sustained an electric shock

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with burns and scalds

• Know how to provide first aid to an infant or a child with suspected poisoning

• Be able to provide first aid to an infant or a child with anaphylaxis
