This qualification is aimed at individuals wishing to gain a more comprehensive understanding of first aid along with an understanding of how important medical/environmental intelligence is when dealing with a range of casualties.

Course Details

Entry requirements:


In order to register onto this qualification, learners are required to meet the following entry requirements:


• 16 years of age, or above

• It is advised learners have a minimum of Level 1 in English and maths.


Upon completion of this First Aid course, you will have passed the following units:


• Unit 1 - Providing First Aid at Work

• Unit 2 - Medical Intelligence and Environmental Awareness

• Unit 3 - Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator



Qualification Outcomes

You will receive a Level 3 Award in First Aid Response (RQF) certificate that will remain valid for 3 years.


In addition to this it is recommended that learners refresh their knowledge annually.


Training also includes how to:

Unit 1


• Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider

• Be able to assess an incident and conduct casualty surveys

• Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty

• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking

• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock

• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles, and joints

• Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with sudden poisoning

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries

• Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness


Unit 2


• Understand how the environment can impact on the provision of first aid

• Understand key medical intelligence which supports the provision of first aid for a specific environment

• Understand how to support a variety of casualties


Unit 3


• Understand the safe use of an automated external defibrillator

• Be able to demonstrate basic life support techniques using an automated external defibrillator

• Understand how to carry out basic maintenance and checks of an automated external defibrillator
