Run For All

Part of the attraction of taking part in a major running event, is the adrenalin rush participants get from pushing their bodies to the max to make it to the finish line.

The flip side of that, of course, is the potential for them to experience a minor or major medical emergency as a result.

If the unfortunate does happen, they need expert medical attention, fast.

And even that’s only the final link in the chain, as anyone organising such an event has to jump through a multitude of hoops – liaising with bodies from the police to local authorities and ambulance services, to ensure their event is safety compliant in the first place.

Which is where Medics UK comes in.

We’ve worked with the Jane Tomlinson’s Run for All organisation since 2015 and now cover most of the races in their annual calendar.

The charity, which raises funds for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal in memory of the late inspirational runner, offers some of the largest road races in the annual calendar, including the Yorkshire Marathon and half-marathons in cities including Leeds, Sheffield, Hull and Derby. It has organised 75 running events since it was created in 2007. Starting with just one 10k in 2007, it hosted 10 such races in 2018, as well as three half-marathons and one marathon. In 2017, the organisation celebrated hitting the £10 million fundraising milestone, and it continues to raise thousands of pounds for national and local charities.

In terms of first aid for these events, Medics UK takes care of everything from the initial logistical planning, to fast response to any casualties on the day itself, providing around 60 trained medical staff at the biggest meets.

Using our decades of experience in event safety planning and risk assessment, we also represent Run For All on the necessary safety advisory groups and carry out their critical medical planning’, leaving them to concentrate on the important job of making each event an amazing one to remember.

Run for All’s Events Team Manager Anna Baker, said: “We chose Medics UK for their competitive costs combined with quality of service. Their risk assessments and medical planning are produced to a high standard. The fact they have strong relationships with many other services like the NHS and local authorities, and can represent us on a safety advisory group for our events, assists us with our event planning process and our relationships with other agencies.

“Medics UK are also flexible due to the size of the organisation. If we require additional provision in the later stages of the planning process due to extreme weather conditions, Medics UK are able to fulfil these needs

“The professionalism and calm nature of their staff is really effective during the busier periods of the Run For All races. For example, our Yorkshire Marathon is an enormous operation with over 10,000 participants taking part on the day. Medics UK provide an extensive team with over 60 First Aiders across the route and start/finish area for this event.”

She added: “We have a positive working relationship with Medics UK which we have developed over many years. Their staff are a credit to the company and we would recommend Medics UK’s services to other organisations.”
